Faerie Fashion Feature - Faerie Footwear

Yay! Time for another Faerie Fashion Feature! This week we will be tackling Faerie Footwear. Because of course we can't walk around barefoot all day (although I wish we could... really!) These shoes that I found on Deviantart are truly the embodiment of the faerie spirit. I love love LOVE them:

These adorable little shoes are for sale on her etsy! As well as a lot of other beautiful faerie fashion items. Go check it out!

Although these shoes are amazing and supercute, they are not for day-to-day wear. You couldn't really show up for work in these babies. So, what is a faerie to do? Well, luckily there are a lot of easy tips to upgrade the shoes you already have into amazing faerie shoes!

1. Ribbons
The easiest step and yet, so effective. If you have pumps or sandals, you could add long lengths of ribbons to it that wrap around your lower legs. If you have lace-up shoes, replace the laces with ribbons! It's cute and funky, yet functional... Try different colours and different fabrics, mix and match if you want. Combining organza and satin ribbon makes it all the more faerie...

Styleconcious.org has a handy tutorial
on how to make these cute pumps!
Missa by Design has a handy video tutorial
on how to make these lace up heels!
FairyfeetSA painted these adorable
shoes and added cute ribbons
instead of laces!

2. Paint
Like the cute Bees and Butterflies shoes above painting your shoes is a fun and whimsical way to make your shoes more faerie-worthy. Add nature patterns or entire fairytales, whatever your imagination can think off... Painting works best on canvas or leather shoes, with the right types of paint. Here is a tutorial on how to paint your shoes!

3. Buttons, flowers and beads
Another simple way to make your shoes more faerie-like is to simply glue (or sow) buttons, silk flowers or stings of beads to your existing shoes. If you want to use glue, use a hot glue gun (careful, it's not called 'hot glue' for nothing!) Simple and easy, but the effect is amazing!

4. Inspiration
Look towards other designers and other crafters to see how they make their shoes more fun. Adapt it to your own personal style et violá! Faerie shoes of your own design! Some designs that I find inspirational:

Faerie Makeup - Coloured Lips

Welcome to the first (hopefully of many) Faerie Makeup features! The point of these features is to inspire people to use makeup as an expression of themselves. It is one of the things why I love makeup so much. It helps me show my inner me, it brings a smile on people's faces and it makes me feel pretty! What more could a girl want? Anyway, our first feature is about coloured lips. And then I don't mean the colours that you can just buy from any makeup brand, no, I mean the colours that are sure to turn heads. Colours the faeries themselves would be jealous of ;)

Doe Deere
I am a huge fan of Doe Deere and her makeup brand Lime Crime Makeup! They have so many fun coloured lipsticks, it hard which one to choose! And with names as 'Mint to be' (the one Doe is wearing in the picture), 'Airborne Unicorn' (purple) and 'No she didn't' (blue) who can resist?

Six pastel lipsticks from Lime Crime.

Now, I do realize that not everyone (including me) has the funds to buy all these amazing colours... But don't fret, we've found just the thing: a tutorial on how to colour your lips, using eyeshadow pencils. Yes, you've read it right; eyeshadow pencils. Click on the picture to get to the full sized version!

By Dead-Rose-16
With this tutorial you now know how to paint your lips using eyeshadow pencils. (You can also use body paint, but eyeshadow pencils are easier to come by) Now it's time to take it one step further; blending and mixing.

Remember; when you have bright, colourful lips, it is best to keep your eye makeup simple and natural. Usually just a touch of eyeliner is all you need when you rock your colourful lips!
So have fun experimenting and show me the photo's of your luscious lips! :D

Faerie Fashion Feature - Horned and Antlered

Pixie Horns - Bloomy
by Witchling-Ashara

Some of us like to show our wilder side when we let out our inner faerie. The side that resides in deep forests and dances in faerie rings with the faun and the satyrs. For these faeries I made this faerie feature. I know I feel better with that little finishing touch on my costume; horns! Of course there are many different shapes and sizes, so let's look at some awesome horns.

Faerie horns.
Cute, in bright colours, glitters. Nothing is too much for a faerie! Even spotted like a mushroom, aren't they cute?

Wild Horns.
Antlers and horns that link us back to nature, to the deep forest. Any satyr would be jealous of these pretty horns!

Antique Bronze Goin Stag Horns by Che4u

Unicorn Horns.
There is nothing more magical than the unicorn horn. In numerous tales and stories this has been the most coveted, most mystical object in all the lands. So why not flaunt it?

DIY Horns.
If you are a bit handy with clay, faerie horns aren't that difficult to make. You just need a little love, a lot of patience (to get the two symmetrical) and lots and lost of glitter! Holly from Hollyrocks blog posted an easy to follow tutorial last year. Click on the picture to take you there!

Rae, also known as Delicious Filth on Deviantart took it step further. She puts her faerie horns on (coloured) wire and adds beads to them! Now wearing them is even more fun, like you're wearing a crown!

So whether you buy them, or make them, horns will make every costume just a little bit more special...

'Till next time!
